SR-22 Insurance Information
Many people refer to SR-22 as ““R-22 insurance,”” but it’s not an auto insurance policy. An SR-22 form proves that you have the minimum amount of required auto liability insurance. In Missouri, the state’s licensing agency or a judge may require that you file an SR-22 form.
At Cloverleaf Insurance in St. Peters, Missouri, our agents understand Missouri’s laws related to SR-22 form filing. If you have been ordered to file an SR-22 form, contact us right away, and we can help.
Do I Need to File a Missouri SR-22 Form?
You only need a Missouri SR-22 form if you’ve received notification from a judge or the state’s licensing agency. Not every driver is required to file an SR-22 form.
You may have to file SR-22 if you are convicted of a serious driving violation, are involved in a serious car accident, are convicted of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or have several moving violations on your driving record. In Missouri, drivers convicted of serious traffic violations and those who’ve had their license suspended may be required to prove they have the minimum liability insurance required by the state. You may have to file an SR-22 before getting your license reinstated if it’s currently suspended.
If you receive notice that you must file SR-22, contact your insurance agent immediately.
Missouri Non-Owner SR-22 Form
If you’ve received notice that you must file SR-22 but don’t own a vehicle or have one registered in your name, your agent can help you get a non-owners auto insurance policy that satisfies the state’s minimum liability requirements.
Liability insurance coverage won’t help repair or replace any damage you cause to the vehicles you drive. The vehicle’s owner must have a separate policy to provide coverage for their vehicle.
If you don’t plan to drive a car when you are ordered to file SR-22, talk with your agent to understand how to navigate Missouri’s requirements.
How Does SR-22 Insurance Work?
